Implementing Modern Network Architectures

In these new era of networking technologies evolution, I see a lot of gap between the awesome ideas proposed by vendors (and network superheroes) and the real world implementation (likely for poor qualified operational staff or to much IT management fear and others mysterious medieval doubts on the modernization concept).

However, how would you suggest to design new network architectures in these scenarios where your only way to propose a new solution to decision makers is with the traditional paradigm design (like a classic enterprise/data center/service provider architecture)?

How could we prepare the traditional foundation architecture (old “hardware” oriented paradigm) to be translated “easily” in a new software defined paradigm architecture without redesign everything from scratch?

How should we insert all the new architecture concept in the “traditional” way we used building network architectures for years without shocking the operation and management teams?
